DIY INFINITY is the first full-length album from the Dreadnots since “The Giant Trips” in 2008. After years of releasing side projects and solo efforts, DIY INFINITY reunites several of the original members (Eric Y., Jeremy C., Davey K., Oblio, and Authentic) on one long-play recording. In a departure from their remote method of producing and recording music across the globe—with band members living in Japan, Denver, and Pittsburgh—this latest release was recorded in-person, during late night spurs of creativity and day sessions in the "ThinkTank" studio in Pittsburgh’s North Side. The Dreadnots stayed true to their DIY methods, stressing the imperfections and raw honesty of all sounds on the recording, in an effort to capture the here/now experience of the musicians in that studio during the days, weeks, months, and years since embarking on this project. Uniting the meticulous and distinct skills of the musicians with the thematic poetry of existential angst and satire from the album's vocalists, each track finds a place within the whole puzzle that is DIY INFINITY.
DIY INFINITY ambitiously addresses themes of our endless efforts of making the strange familiar and the familiar strange, meaninglessness, materialism, capitalism, technology, social control, and the labor of creativity. The title "DIY INFINITY" highlights how personal creativity, and the will to create one's own experience of the world is at the primacy of the battle against absurdity and death, so as to manufacture reasons to continue manufacturing reasons to continue living, ad infinitum. In its LP record format, DIY INFINITY is divided into binary repeating halves of the listener’s waking life, DAY IN (Side A) and DAY OUT (Side B). In its digital format, each track is individually indexed. DIY INFINITY distorts boundaries and accentuates rhythm, as individual tracks bleed seamlessly into one another without clear distinction. The result is a stream of auditory experiences, none of which are the same but all certainly belonging to the whole.
The sounds on this recording were carefully cultivated using MPC-2000xl, MPC-1000, Sp-1200, SP-202/303/404, Juno-6, OP-1, and a seemingly infinite layer of field recordings, borrowing rhythms from household appliances to disembodied conversations, painstakingly gathered and arranged by the musicians. DIY INFINITY’s constellation of sounds, fosters a space for the listener’s mind to wander and return safely within the album’s 35-minute lifespan. A composite experience of musical dimensions brought to you by the distinct, yet collective, efforts of the Dreadnots in 2017. DIY INFINITY will live without end in your speakers, and in your collection.

This album really showcases how Ceschi is a musical chameleon. And that it’s 16 years old and the quality of his musical collaborations haven’t declined in that much time is amazing. He’s grown to be one of my favorite artists of all time and there are some heavy hitters on that short list. CalWestCoast
